The Daily Word of Righteousness
The Antichrist, The False Prophet, and the Image, continued
For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. (II Thessalonians 2:7—NIV)
If a person from the tenth century, let's say, were to live in America for awhile he would be amazed at the emphasis on the "rights of people." Ever since the nobles rebelled against King John putting limits on royal power, followed by the evolution of the Parliament of England, the teachings of the humanistic philosophers, and the American and French revolutions, there has been an increasing emphasis on letting people do as they pretty well please. We call this "democracy."
Christians have often viewed democracy and Christianity as being compatible, if not the very same thing. So it is that Antichrist will begin as a Christian, espousing democratic ideals of government, until the death inherent in the philosophy of democracy begins to be obvious.
Why is there death in the philosophy of democracy? Because the idea of democracy is that everyone is to be able to express himself or herself with few or no restrictions. Anyone can see at a glance that the end of this is anarchy. But the philosophy of democracy has been presented as though it were God's plan for the ages.
The Kingdom of God is the very opposite of democracy. The Kingdom of God is composed of people who have surrendered their will that the will of God and His Christ might be performed.
Democracy says "The will of the people be done."
The Kingdom of God says "God's will be done."
If we think the will of the people and the will of God are one and the same we are really deluded. We are not observing the rise of immorality in America, England, Scandinavia, and other democracies.
When the Law is on the mountain with Moses the people sit down to eat and drink and rise up to play. No, the will of the people is not the will of God by any means. The opposite is true. The mind of the flesh is the mortal enemy of God's Spirit.
In America today we are beginning to see the maturing of the democratic ideal.
Recently in the newspaper an article told of the arrest of a young man who had led many young, inexperienced girls into the profession of prostitution, ruining their lives in the process. His comment in court was to the effect he thought this is what America is all about. He probably meant that people could do as they pleased as long as they didn't rob banks.
The judge did not agree that he represented the American ideal and sentenced him to life in prison.
The point is, this is the way many people perceive what it means to live in a democracy. Our laws keep changing in order to accommodate what people want to do. Babies that have come to term are mutilated to protect the "reproductive rights" of the mother. This truly is an abomination!
Some time ago a well known investment counselor was brought into court because of questionable dealings. His response was along the line that America was a wonderful country because it enabled him to "turn a profit."
To be continued.
