The Daily Word of Righteousness
Old Thoughts for the New Day, continued
Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it. (Mark 16:20—NIV)
It is a blessing to have a church full of people, but only if those people have been sent by the Lord Jesus. The "Gibeonites" cause nothing but trouble as long as they are with you.
Do not believe what people tell you or be taken in by their actions. Go to the Lord Jesus and He will show you who is of Him, and who is not of Him but is joining himself to you from personal motives.
We notice in Joshua that the Lord won more victories than did the Israelites.
As they fled before Israel on the road down from Beth Horon to Azekah, the LORD hurled large hailstones down on them from the sky, and more of them died from the hailstones than were killed by the swords of the Israelites. (Joshua 10:11—NIV)
More Amorites died from the hailstones than were killed by the Israelite warriors!
"The Lord worked with them, confirming the word with signs following," the Bible states concerning the early apostles.
It used to be that when sheet metal was being riveted there was someone on the other side "bucking the rivets," making sure the bond was secure. Perhaps this still is true where sheet metal is employed.
When you are doing what the Lord commands the Holy Spirit will "buck the rivets."
When you are working with the Lord in the tasks of the Kingdom of God you do not have to carry the load by yourself. There are some things the Lord will do by Himself, as in the case of the large hailstones coming down on the Amorites.
Every pastor learns there are some problems you can handle and others too sensitive to touch. This is the time to take your hands off, sometimes completely, and let the Lord take care of matters.
If we will be diligent in all the things we can do we can rest with confidence that God will "buck the rivets." He will arrange circumstances and motivate people in such a manner that the problem is solved.
The spiritual pressure of the future will be so enormous there will be much we cannot do to rectify the injustices. It is the Lord's Church, His Temple, His Bride, His Kingdom. He asks us only to do what we can as He leads us. Then He will do the rest.
The Elephant and the mouse work together to move the logs. But when you think about it, it is the Elephant who does the work. The mouse comes along to keep the Elephant company.
We have to do our very best, and all laziness and lack of diligence receives its due reward. But when we have prayed and obeyed, being very careful to watch for the Lord's will and to perform it, we can rest assured that God will do His part. God is never late. He always can be counted on to do what is necessary.
