The Daily Word of Righteousness
That Which Is Perfect, #12
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. (John 14:12)
Because the Lord has gone to the Father, He is able to descend into the saints and perform the same and greater works than took place during His time on the earth two thousand years ago.
We have not seen the greater works as yet. They have been reserved for the age of moral horrors that will come to earth just before the return of the Lord—the age we are entering in the present hour.
At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. (John 14:20)
"That day" is the Day of the Lord, the time when our adamic nature is subdued and Christ takes His place on the throne of our personality. That is the day when we know as we are known.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. (I Corinthians 13:12)
The abiding in Christ we are mentioning is the spiritual fulfillment of the Old Testament feast of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:34). The feast of Tabernacles comes after the feast of Pentecost. After we have received the baptism with the Holy Spirit we are to press forward until we know by experience that Christ is in His Father, and we are in Christ, and Christ is in us.
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (John 14:21)
We show our love to Christ by diligently observing to keep His commandments. An evil doctrine has entered the Christian churches of our day. It is that we are saved by grace so we do not have to do what Christ commanded us. Some go so far as to state that the commandments of Christ in the Gospel accounts are not binding on Christian people. This is a misunderstanding of the teaching of the Apostle Paul.
No believer will make any progress in Christ until he begins to keep the commandments of the Lord. We show our love by keeping Christ's commandments. When we keep Christ's commandments the Father loves us and Christ loves us. Christ then will reveal Himself to us.
Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world? (John 14:22)
The Apostles realized that the Lord Jesus was speaking of a revelation of Himself to His followers, not of His second coming in the clouds of glory.
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. (John 14:23)
We do not prove our love to the Lord Jesus by calling Him Lord but by doing what He told us to do. The Father loves each person who obeys His Son.
The Father and the Son will come to the obedient individual and dwell with him or her for eternity. This is that which is perfect. This is the Kingdom, the final result of all the works of salvation.
