The Daily Word of Righteousness
The Revealing of the Sons of God, continued
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. (I Corinthians 12:12)
Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. (I Corinthians 12:27)
To the Apostle Paul was given a revelation that may not have been as clear to the other Apostles. The revelation is that Christ will be formed in the saints so they are members of His very Body.
Sometimes it seems as though the concept of Christ in us is still a mystery to Christians. The emphasis in Christian teaching appears to be on the external as though we are learning about an external Christ and serving an external Christ. Perhaps the mystery of Christ in us, the forming of the Kingdom of God in us, needs to be stressed in our day.
Paul compared the Body of Christ with the human body, emphasizing the fact that while believers have various personalities and ministries they still compose one body.
So also is Christ! Think of it! Messiah whom the Jews are expecting includes not only the glorious Head, the Lord Jesus, but also the members of His Body. The appearing of Christ, the Anointed One, will be the appearing of the Lord Jesus and also the saints in whom He is dwelling.
If the Lord were not going to create the Body of Christ He would have established His Kingdom two thousand years ago. We understand therefore that the purpose of the Church Age has been the creation of the Body of Christ. When the Body has been prepared, then the Head will appear with the Body and there will be one tremendous revelation of God for all nations to behold.
Ephesians 4:11-16.
And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; (Ephesians 4:11)
The ascended Christ has given to His Body a multitude of varied gifts and ministries. The purpose of the gifts and ministries given to the Body is that each member may grow into perfection in the Head, Christ.
For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: (Ephesians 4:12)
The Body of Christ is to be built up to maturity. The standard of maturity is not vague, it has been established clearly. It is the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Each son of God was predestined from the beginning of the world to be in the image of Christ and to be a brother of Christ.
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: (Ephesians 4:13)
The gifts and ministries will continue to operate until each member of the body has arrived at the same faith and the same knowledge of the Son of God; not the same doctrinal belief but the same faith and knowledge that interact with the living Jesus. Each saint is to grow to maturity as measured by the stature of the fullness of Christ.
To be continued.
