The Daily Word of Righteousness
Babylon, #4
One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits on many waters. With her the kings of the earth committed adultery and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries." (Revelation 17:1,2—NIV)
(Prior essays will reveal it is not our intention to demean the Catholic Church.)
Those who have studied the history of Europe realize the tremendous influence the Catholic Church has had on Western civilization. Indeed, "the kings of the earth committed adultery and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries." The influence of the Catholic Church, and later the Protestant denominations, was felt in every area of human life.
But in many, perhaps most, instances it was not the influence of the Lord Jesus that affected European life but the influence of religious leaders following their own political ambitions.
Notice the name given by the Bible to self-willed Christianity:
This title was written on her forehead: MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. (Revelation 17:5—NIV)
It is my point of view that Babylon the Great is the Catholic Church and the Protestant churches are her daughters.
Why are the Protestant churches prostitutes? Because they seek to find favor with the world and attempt to offer God's grace to the world instead of standing as a witness of Christ against the malice and wickedness of the world.
Notice also:
I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus. (Revelation 17:6—NIV)
Here is a horrible thought. The self-directed Christian organization has murdered so many true saints of the Lord Jesus Christ, those who bore testimony to Jesus, that it actually is drunk with their blood. It has lost its ability to reason and its balance because it is intoxicated with its success in crushing all resistance to what it believes is its Divinely inspired program to save the world.
Ten kings who are aligned with Antichrist will make war against the Lord Jesus. But their effort is futile. He shall overcome them because of His God-given authority as Lord of lords and King of kings.
Notice that those who are with Christ are called, and chosen, and then proven faithful. Many are called. Few are chosen. The chosen few are then tested repeatedly in the area of obedience to Christ until their faithfulness has been demonstrated beyond all question. The self-will must be destroyed out of them before they can overcome the evil that is in the world.
They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers. (Revelation 17:14—NIV)
The following verse is interesting:
The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire. (Revelation 11:16—NIV)
It is my point of view that in the not too distant future the Christian denominations will combine into one huge religious organization. Antichrist and his fellow kings will work with this new denomination until they feel strong enough to rule without it. Then they will destroy it.
