The Daily Word of Righteousness
The Physical Area of the Rest of God, #5
Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off. (Romans 11:22)
There is a lot of talk in Christian circles about how Divine grace cannot be affected by our behavior, how much God loves us and would never permit us to suffer, how Jesus keeps overlooking our sins, how a disobedient Christian has no need to fear the Judgment Seat of Christ, how the Lord wants to be used by us to fulfill our every desire.
Many teachers hold that the words of the Lord Jesus found in the four Gospels do not apply to Christians, only to the Jews of Jesus' day (why, then, do some Bibles have the words of the Lord in red if they no longer apply?). In addition, some claim that the Book of Hebrews is speaking to unsaved Jews.
It is our own fault that such concepts exist and that people do not understand the severity of God. We ought to know better than to listen to teachers who distort the Scriptures. We should be soundly rebuking such teachers instead of hiring them to teach in our Bible schools!
Imagine someone teaching that the Sermon on the Mount does not apply to Christians, only to the Jews of Jesus' day! Imagine a Christian teaching that the exhortations of the Book of Hebrews apply to unsaved Jews and not to Christians who must not neglect their assembling together but continue to press forward to the rest of God! Has the teacher never read the Book of Hebrews? To what lengths will Christian ministers go to prove that sinning believers need have no fear of God's judgment? What has happened to the spirit of the Christian churches? There is no fear of God among them.
This whole package of lies will be swept away by the broom of destruction that is at the door. All of us need to pray we will have enough of Christ in us to stand in victory before the Son of Man.
Joel saw the coming of the warlike remnant, the large and terrible army of the Lord that will go from city to city and village to village until every demon has been removed from the earth.
Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array. (Joel 2:5)
Habakkuk trembled in fear at the sight of the invincible army of saints marching in stern obedience to the Father in Heaven.
When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops. (Habakkuk 3:16) (from Entering the Land of Promise)
