The Daily Word of Righteousness
Preparing the Way for the King, #7
A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them. (Joel 2:3)
The present world will be overthrown by the saints when the Lord appears. The works of mankind in that day will seem as Eden, so much will civilization have advanced. But the sons of God will tear down the works of those whose God is themselves and then rebuild the world in righteousness according to the will of God.
And they shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations. (Isaiah 61:4)
As we have said, the works of mankind in that day will seem as Eden but in actuality they will truly be desolate. Whenever man seeks to be his own God he ruins every aspect of the arts and sciences—every dimension of civilization is corrupted although it may not be evident at first.
We see this today in America. Because our nation has forsaken the true God we are seeing moral, educational, artistic, financial, military, intellectual, philosophical, legal desolation. While all that has been built in America by God-fearing people is crumbling, the blind leaders are attempting to force our "superior" way of life on other nations as though we were enjoying a paradise on earth. Is there a more violent, crime-ridden culture than that of America?
The United States of America, unlike all other nations, is a conglomerate of races. The nation of Iceland, for example, is one race. Regardless of immediate strife, every Icelander at heart is a brother or sister of every other Icelander.
The original purpose of coming to America was, and to a certain extent still is, to escape tyranny. But there is "death in the melting pot." Our country is dedicated to the pursuit of happiness rather than the pursuit of righteousness, which is the goal God has set before us.
America is experiencing civil strife as the various races and interests seek to enforce their own happiness regardless of what happens to the other races and interests. The struggle in America is not a struggle for righteousness but for power to bring happiness to the group of one's choice. The struggle is masked by hypocritical remarks about the "rights" of this group or that. The truth is, the civil unrest is no more nor less than an effort to gain power.
Unless the Lord specifically directs an individual otherwise, Christian people are to get out of this carnal confusion and keep out of it if they are to please God. The most valuable contribution a Christian can make to the betterment of society is to come out of the world and cleave to the Lord Jesus. The Lord Jesus did not labor over the politics of Rome. He spent His time on the mountain with God and did more good for the world than any other person who has ever lived. Let us follow the example of Jesus.
We who are Christians in America, and in other nations as well, are to prepare ourselves to serve Christ in the army of the Lord, the army that soon will descend from Heaven and bring a true and lasting peace to the meek of mankind.
To be continued.
