The Daily Word of Righteousness
John 14:1,2
Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. (John 14:1,2)
To say to devout Jews, you believe in God believe also in me, is very serious business. Jesus was talking to His disciples and telling them to put Him on the same level as God: "Believe in God? Believe in Me. Trust in God? Trust in Me." Oy!
Jesus either was the Son of God or a first-class blasphemer!
I think the disciples must have been living in a trance most of the time (just as I do) or they would have been staggered by the things Jesus said.
"In My Father's house."
Here is the emphasis. Here is what Jesus is talking about.
The emphasis is not on our "mansions" but on God's house.
It is believed commonly that God's house is Heaven. There is no Scripture for this.
The truth is, God's house is the Church. There is an abundance of Scripture for this. Technically speaking, God's House is the Lord Jesus Christ. In Christ dwells all the fullness of the Godhead in bodily form. The Church is the house of God only because it has pleased God to make the Church the fullness of Christ.
The Church is the house of God of which Jesus is speaking.
In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. (Ephesians 2:22)
When God created man He gave no indication of the grand plan of the Lord to build a house for Himself. Actually God is fed up, so to speak, with the angels, especially those who rebelled against Him. So He is preparing a new throne for Himself from the dust of the ground. As soon as Christ, Head and Body, the eternal house of God has been prepared, God will move His throne from the heavens into His new house. Then the angel will be servants of the sons of God.
The earth is God's footstool. It is God's intention to make the place of His feet glorious.
The first indication we have of God's intention is found in the song of Moses and the children of Israel after God had destroyed the Egyptians in the sea.
Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established. (Exodus 15:17)
Notice also:
Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them. (Psalms 68:18)
Paul quoted from Psalms 68 when he was mentioning the gifts and ministries given by the ascended Christ. Paul asserted that the purpose of the gifts and ministries is to bring all the elect to maturity as measured by the full stature of Christ.
The purpose of thus perfecting the saints is given in Psalm 68:18, that God might dwell among them, or dwell there. When God builds up Zion, which is Christ, He will dwell there forever.
To be continued.
