The Daily Word of Righteousness
Revelation 21:8
But the cowardly, and unbelieving, and the vile, and murderers, and immoral persons, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Revelation 21:8)
There are eight behaviors and attitudes that have been sentenced by the Father to eternal torment in the Lake of Fire.
The Lake of Fire was created for the incarceration of the devil and his angels, according to the Lord Jesus. The eight behaviors of Revelation 21:8 are included in Satan's personality.
Will there be human beings in the Lake of Fire?
Yes, according to the Scripture.
Why would a human being be put in a prison designed for angels?
Because the person has chosen to have this kind of personality instead of a personality in the image of God.
Does the Lake of Fire always have authority over these behaviors? Yes.
Does the Lake of Fire have authority over cowardice in a Christian? Yes, it does.
Let me stop right here for station identification.
We have a problem in our thinking. It is that accepting Jesus as our Savior is the beginning and end of our salvation. Accept Jesus and you are saved!
This is not a scriptural position. Salvation is something you have to work out each day, it is not a pass out of Hell to Heaven. You have to endure to the end to be saved. Many of the Jews who left Egypt never made it to the land of promise.
Let us look at two passages that often are employed to support the one-shot concept.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. (John 5:24)
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9,10)
Both of these passages are beginning steps in the program of salvation.
Let us say you are admitted to a four-year program in computer science. You receive a letter that tells you you have been accepted.
You are all excited and the future is rosy.
But you don't understand all about computers as yet.
You don't have your degree yet.
You don't have a job yet.
So it is with the above two passages. They are beginning steps. You have to read what else Jesus and Paul said in order to find out what to do next.
Jesus told us later in the Book of John that if we do not bear fruit we will be cut out of the Vine, out of Himself. If you don't add John 15:2 to John 5:24 you have a misleading, destructive understanding of the Christian salvation.
Paul told us earlier in the Book of Romans that if we, having received Christ and been baptized in water, choose then to be the servant of sin, we will die.
If we don't add Romans 6:16 to Romans 10:9,10 we have a misleading, destructive understanding of the Christian salvation.
To be continued.
