The Daily Word of Righteousness
The Big Picture, #3
And we know in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. (Romans 8:28,29—NIV)
Man was created to be the throne of God, the representative of God to all of His creatures. But in order for man to fulfill his foreordained destiny he must be in the image of Jesus Christ.
We see from the above that God has a purpose. We notice also that as part of this purpose God has predestined some people to be conformed to the likeness of Jesus Christ. The result will be brothers for the Lord, sons of God born from the same Father.
But this is not enough. In addition to being conformed to the likeness of Jesus Christ, man must be dwelling in untroubled rest in Christ in God, becoming an integral part of the one Divine Nature. The Lord Jesus is sharing His Glory and His inheritance with us. Therefore we must become of the same Nature as He and an integral part of Himself. Otherwise God would be giving His Glory to a person separate from Himself, and this cannot be.
That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so the world may believe you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. (John 17:21-23—NIV)
Jesus prayed this prayer for those whom God has given Him from among the members of mankind.
Read carefully these three verses (above) and you will be amazed to find that God indeed is incorporating into Himself, through Jesus Christ, those who have chosen to become a part of Christ. God loves us as He loves His firstborn Son. Isn't that a marvel? Now we are not only in the image of Christ but also abiding in the Person of Christ, always doing the will of God from the heart. There is no higher destiny than this.
As we ponder what we have said thus far we see that the Christian salvation includes much more than saving people from Hell and bringing them to Heaven. There is a grand Divine plan for restructuring the entire creation of God.
Sin entered Heaven, as God probably knew in advance it would, and infected some of the angels.
Then God set in motion the great scheme that would result in the new heaven and earth reign of Jesus Christ.
Man was created. Sin immediately descended from the heavens and infected man. Now we have an entire race of creatures cut off from God's Presence, containing within themselves the deadly virus of sin and rebellion.
As we said previously, God could have appeased His anger concerning the sin of the angels by throwing all of those rebels into the Lake of Fire. Indeed, all of them eventually shall find their eternal destiny in the Lake of Fire. None shall be saved, as far as we know. It is given to man to be their judges.
