My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (John 14:2,3)
I believe that religion is people seeking to please God without hearing from God or knowing His will. Such may seek to “kill” Christ whenever He appears. Religion tends to be man-centered and not God-centered. Think about this.
It is God’s desire in the days in which we live to prepare a resting place, a house in which and from which God can accomplish His will. This means we must cease from our own works and seek the Face of the Lord continually.
Each member of the Royal priesthood is to be a resting place for God. It may be true that the goal of being a house and resting place for the Lord has not been pursued as much as God would enjoy. It appears that our tendency as fervent Christians is to attempt to do God’s work according to our own thinking without listening for “directions”; to “lay our hands on the Ark,” so to speak.
John 14:2 is speaking of preparing a place for each member of the Church in Christ Himself, who is the House of God. To be with Christ where He always is, is to be in the “bosom,” the closest possible embrace, of God.
- God’s purpose for His Church is that it might be a resting place, a house for Himself. We have made the object of our pursuing God something to benefit ourselves.
- Our purpose in pursuing Christ continually and ardently is to provide for God a resting place in which and from which He can perform the desires of His heart. Peter sought to build houses for Jesus, Paul, and Elijah. However, Peter himself and all other members of the Church are to be the house, the resting place, of God.
In the Garden of Eden, Satan, a cherub, who covered the throne of God with his wings, wanted to take the place of God. Satan wished to switch Eve’s worship from God to himself. For this reason he sought to invite Eve to disobey God. Since God does not wish to be troubled again by an ambitious cherub, God has created mankind with the Word made flesh as its head. He also has made Christ and the Body of Christ His eternal throne, surrounding them with a jasper wall. This is the perfect fulfillment of the Levitical celebration of Tabernacles, and the new Jerusalem.
Each believer in the Lord Jesus Christ who attains to the spiritual fulfillment of the Feast of Tabernacles will never leave his position as a pillar in the new Jerusalem because he himself is part of the new Jerusalem.
Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name. (Revelation 3:12)
God has moved His throne from Heaven to Christ and the members of His Body, His Church. All of God’s work at this time is to move us into the spiritual fulfillment of Tabernacles so God no longer will be troubled by ambitious creatures.
It is the role of Calvary to forgive all the sins that have come against Him, and to get on with the work of creating His throne in mankind.
The purpose of the Divine redemption is to get back from Satan that which was stolen from God, namely the obedience and worship of people.
I may be serving God on the earth for another twenty years. This service will not be some project I have undertaken. Step by step, one foot in front of the other, thinking, speaking, and acting in harmony with God’s will. All of this work will take place while God is resting and enjoying His house in my personality.
